The Channel Islands Harbor gets the postcards and the summer press, but if you live off Rose or in RiverPark Village, your July and August social calendar probably runs through a different address. Between the last Wednesday of July and the second week of September, The Collection at RiverPark is scheduling roughly six free anchor nights in eight weeks. If you know the dates, you can build most of your late-summer rotation without a reservation or a ticket.
Here is what is actually on the schedule, when to show up, and which stalls at the Annex to hit on the way in.
The one week where everything stacks
The last week of July is when the calendar compresses. The Dallas Cowboys are back for their 20th year of training camp at River Ridge Playing Fields, with practices opening on Wednesday, July 29 and running through Tuesday, August 18. The team's presence pulls two evening events into The Collection itself, so you do not have to sit through a practice to catch the fan-facing pieces.
- Wednesday, July 29 — Rock the Collection kickoff at Collection Park, 6:30 p.m. Free, family-friendly tribute-band set, sponsored by Ventura County Credit Union with 95.1 KBBY on the media side.
- Friday, July 31 — The 5th Oxnard Fan Night from 4 to 6 p.m., with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, mascot Rowdy, trivia, and giveaways. Free. Radio host Junior Lledo and Francois the Great from the local Luminary Sounds show are running the mic this year.
- Saturday, August 1 — Cowboys Back Together Saturday at River Ridge, with the opening ceremony at 11:15 a.m. and open practice at 11:45 a.m. This one is the anniversary set piece.
- Thursday, August 6 — Heroes Appreciation Day at River Ridge, honoring military and first responders with free general admission parking and reserved sideline spots for anyone in uniform or with military ID.
If you have not been to a Cowboys practice in a few years, the logistics matter: parking lots at River Ridge open about three hours before the scheduled practice time, and gates open two hours out. General parking is $20 cash. The concert and Fan Night at The Collection itself are walk-up.
The concert series is the actual backbone
Rock the Collection is where residents should be paying attention, because it is the one recurring, no-commitment evening on the calendar. Four Wednesday evenings, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Collection Park:

Bring folding chairs or a blanket. The park lawn is the seating; no reserved areas. The lineup leans on tribute bands rather than local originals, which is a fair critique but also the reason it works as an every-Wednesday habit. You are not committing to a genre or an unfamiliar act.
The second half of the series is the underrated stretch. By August 26 and September 9, the Cowboys have decamped for Frisco, out-of-town traffic through RiverPark thins out, and the park settles back into a neighborhood crowd. If you are picking one Wednesday, pick a later one.
Building a dinner around a 6:30 downbeat
The Annex Food Hall on Collection Boulevard is the practical answer to "where do we eat before the concert." It is a 16,000-square-foot indoor hall with 13 stalls, open until midnight Friday and Saturday and 11 p.m. most other nights, which is unusual for Oxnard. The vendor mix rotates more than management probably prefers, but the anchor operators have held steady.
A working order-of-operations for a Wednesday:
- Arrive at the Annex by 5:15. Split up. One person queues at Silverlake Ramen for the tonkotsu with pork belly, which is the item the hall is most consistently praised for.
- Another grabs a burrata plate from Burrata House or a sandwich from Scratch.
- Pick up drinks at Bottle & Pint last so they are cold at the table.
- Eat at the communal seating inside, then walk the two minutes to Collection Park by 6:20.
Love Pho Cafe and Pizza Man Dan's are the reliable fallbacks if lines at the anchors are long. If you want to skip the hall entirely, Carne is now one of the named anchors on the center's roster, alongside the older Yard House, Larsen's Grill, Lazy Dog, and Copper Blues Rock Pub. Copper Blues is also the answer to "where do we go after the concert ends at 8" — it runs late with live music most nights.
The off-nights are where residents actually spend money
Concerts and Cowboys events are the reason you circle a date. The rest of the week is where the center earns its keep for people who live within a five-mile radius.
Lucky Strike Oxnard is the bowling anchor. It was Bowlero until earlier this year and rebranded to Lucky Strike, which is worth knowing only because reservations and league sign-ups now live under the new name. It runs late on weekends.
Levity Live is billed as Oxnard's only dedicated comedy club, with a booking history that has included George Lopez and, more unusually, Val Kilmer. Tuesday and Wednesday shows are cheaper and easier to walk into than the weekend headliner nights.
The Mighty Axe is the axe-throwing venue behind The Collection's recurring Father's Day giveaway with them. It is a decent group-activity answer that does not require you to plan around dinner.
Century RiverPark 16 & XD is the movie theater anchor and is the reason The Collection has foot traffic on rainy weeknights in the off-season.
The holiday hinge nobody plans for in August
Worth marking now, because the calendar closes fast: The Collection's Tree Lighting Celebration typically runs in the third week of November at Collection Park, with a fireworks finale and a snow effect. In recent years it has landed on a mid-week evening around 7 p.m. Photos with Santa run from mid-November through Christmas Eve. If you have small kids and you have tried to book Santa photos the second week of December, you already know why the pre-Thanksgiving window is the one to target.
Between Rock the Collection's September 9 finale and the tree lighting in November, The Collection goes quiet on the events front for about ten weeks. That is the stretch where the Annex, Levity Live, and Lucky Strike do most of their work.
If you pick one week
If you only clear the calendar for one week of this whole run, make it the week of August 24. The August 26 Rock the Collection date is a Wednesday, the Cowboys crowd is gone, the weather is still warm enough to sit outside past 8 p.m., and the Annex is not fighting camp foot traffic. Bring the family, split a table at Silverlake Ramen, walk to the park.
If you are picking two, add September 9. It is the closer, it will be cooler, and it is the last free outdoor concert in RiverPark until next summer.
RiverPark is not the harbor, and it is not downtown, and residents who moved here from either of those pockets sometimes take a season or two to build a rhythm around it.
